Wearing our true colors

As parents, we’re always looking for ways to hand down our values to the next generation. After all, beliefs are what define us. The question is how do we go about it?

Our words and daily actions are the obvious answer. But sometimes you want to be able to communicate your values on a different level. That’s when my wife and I decided to create a family crest.

Symbols are powerful. Especially when your kids are exposed to them on a daily basis. They become engrained. At least, that’s the idea.

Here’s a breakdown of our family crest:

Upper left: Words & Ideas
Upper right: Order, Ritual, & Tradition
Lower right: Working Hard & Taking Risks
Lower left: Appreciation of Beauty

The final touch? The maize and blue colors of our university.

We even went so far as to make T-shirts and a onesie (not shown) for our little guy.

Seeing is believing.
